Awhile back I played Calvin and Hobbes at an RP game over on IJ. I'd aged Calvin up to his mid twenties and turned his childhood fantasies into a manifestation of powers of sorts. Hobbes was turned into a sort of Daemon, His Dark Materials style. I was having a really hard time with the app, though I can't really remember why at this point. Creating a history for a character who you only know up till the age of seven is pretty difficult. I basically did this picspam before I finished up the app because visiualising everything helped me in the writing. I also, obviously, just love Calvin and Hobbes and I really, really love these PB choices, even though I wasn't able to play the character for very long.
I've never picspammed an RP casting before, because obviously choices can be so subjective to opinion. Hopefully you'll enjoy it! And don't think I'm raping your childhood XD!

Calvin will be played by Val Emmich, a musician currently playing Betty's love interest of the season on Ugly Betty. I went through a few other choices including Nick Stahl and Aaron Paul, but then right as I was going to go with Aaron Paul, Val's character on Ugly Betty compared his happiness to a Snow Day. That kind of sealed the deal.
If I app him Calvin is going to be in his twenties and very much unchanged from the cynical, imaginative kid he is in the comics. He'll still be talking to Hobbes (who'll be acting sort of like a daemon) and I'm thinking of playing him as some sort of art school dropout who spent most of his time in his teens being diagnosed with ADD and getting stuffed in lockers. The concept behind the powers I'm going to give him is a bit of Green Lantern with a little HDM daemon theory.

Calvin's mom is played by Alison Janney. I feel a little bad, because ever since leaving the West Wing I've only seen her in mom roles. She's perfect in my head though, because I can very easily see her getting fed up with Calvin's BS. I haven't yet decided whether Calvin's parents know/have accepted the fact that Calvin has powers, but either way, they have to think it's odd that in his twenties, he's still talking to an invisible tiger.

Calvin's dad was always sort of a douchey dorkface. If he wasn't complaining about his job, he was lying to Calvin, telling Calvin to build character, or being a jerk on his bike. I never really liked Calvin's dad >.> However, he's a pretty important part of how Calvin grew up and my Calvin has a few daddy issues (can you imagine walking into the fourth grade and telling your teacher that the world really WAS black and white pre-1950?). I chose Ted Raimi because he's good at dorky, and after SPN this week, I decided he was kind of good at douchey too. I tried to find caps from SPN, but got lazy and failed, so he does look kind of uber-young here compared to Alison, but in my head they're closer in age.

Susie is the girl next door, and is thus played by the quintessential girl next door, Katie Holmes (pre-Tom Cruise crazy, of course). My Calvin is working for the Bureau while also trying to make it work with Susie: his on and off again girlfriend, ever since the 9th grade when he decided that girls weren't so gross any more. Susie has most likely graduated from some very prestigious university and is probably a lawyer or a doctor-in-training or something else very impressive. I imagine when Calvin takes her out she usually ends up footing the bill. They fight all the time --probably over stupid little things like the fact that Calvin doesn't seem to know how to do laundry or eat real food-- but Susie still loves him. I'm pretty sure she knows about Calvin's powers as well, and probably about where he works. It freaks the hell out of her.

As a grown up, Calvin's best relationships are with three people: Hobbes, Susie, and his mom. I just really don't see him getting along with his dad very well in his twenties. While Susie and his Mom were definitely worried when he dropped out of school, they were still supportive. His dad probably flew off the handle and lectured about "building character" and "talking to that damned tiger". So even with all of the shit he's pulled with Susie and his mom over the years, they're the people he leans on in a crisis. And Hobbes of course, we can't forget Hobbes.
Hobbes doesn't really get a PB. I thought about picking out a random tiger, but that doesn't really work for Hobbes. I don't feel too bad about it because I think Calvin would be perfectly okay with me leaving it to your imaginations. That's what he does, after all.

NOT FEATURED: Rosalyn, Mrs. Wormwood, Moe, Uncle Max, Principal Spittle
(These characters wouldn't be used NPCwise, so I didn't stick them in the casting.)

I haven't thought about real life actors for any of them, but I've grown up with the comics and have had many laughs.
